Four things have recently greatly altered my thinking on many subjects: 1) the book "Confessions of a Slacker Mom" by Muffy Mead-Ferro (given to me by the lovely Janna Rone), 2) the movie "An Inconvenient Truth," 3) the magazine Real Simple, and 4) Method cleaning products. I have had an epiphany, of sorts. and I want to share . . . .
Let's show our children, by example, that love is more important than money!
Let's simplify our lives . . . .
Let's stop buying so much junk from companies that don't take care of their employees or, in the end, this great-big-crazy-beautiful world in which we live. Let's work less and spend less!

Let's stop buying so much junk from companies that don't take care of their employees or, in the end, this great-big-crazy-beautiful world in which we live. Let's work less and spend less!
Let's start using cleaning products that are earth and people friendly! Let's start buying organic and locally grown food (the extra pennies are made up tenfold in the health and well-being we ALL then get to enjoy!) Let's start thinking first about our children. And our children's children. And what we are leaving to them! They don't need box after box of wastefully packaged plastic toys or lots of clothes or the latest gadgets. They need us to be involved and fully invested in their lives and their future! Let's take back our political power from special interest groups! And by this I mean big oil. And the pharmaceutical companies. And the insurance industry!
Let us hold all those in this world who think they deserve to live above morality at the expense of the rest of us accountable for their actions.

Hey lady: As usual, I went to your blog and came away happy. Was so glad to see your latest post. I'm watching too many people your age (okay and my age too) buy lotsa crap they'll never use, don't need. I made a decision about 12 years ago to live simply. I still have a little book about that I read every so often. From little things, like getting rid of houseplants because they are too much trouble and they are a breeding ground for bugs, etc. to big things like finally deciding we only needed one car. We live on a bus line and I either use that, or bike or walk. Many things in between. A movie star on Oprah was talking about SUVs and how you could still have those and do "offset." That's crap. You're almost the only people I know who really must have a bigger car. Most people don't ever use their back seats. And all those expensive things don't bring happiness. We must change. So glad you'll be a shining example to your friends. And don't be afraid to speak up, even when not asked, to tell people what you believe. Mostly, we're all too silent. Hope all is well (it certainly looks great!). Love to all the monkeys.
